Over the last 50 plus years Lake County Speedway (LCS), previously Painesville Speedway, was used solely as a circle track. It was not until 2010 that the sport of drifting, what most Clevelander’s do during winter months, came to the the track. Local drift club Drift Cleveland approached the staff at LCS seeking a home track to practice, and potentially hold a national event. What started out as a place to hang out and play is now going to be holding a national tour date for the Midwest Drift Union.
The Midwest Drift Union (MDU) aims to prepare veteran drift drivers to take their passion to the national level, assist new drivers with getting seat time to gain experience, and provide entertainment along the way. The MDU season consists of four events around the Midwest. The 2012 season started in Jacksonville, Indiana, Round 2 will be here at LCS on July 7th, Round 3 will be at Lucas Oil Raceway (Indianapolis Raceway Park), then their finale will be at our fellow NASCAR sanctioned Home Track of Kil-Kare Speedway in Xenia, Ohio.
Be sure to put July 7th on your calenday for the 3rd annual Drift Effect presented by NOS. Come see some of the best drivers from around the region compete for the MDU title and a shot to be the next drift sensation!
